UIL Mandates Stadium Restrictions

To Our Seminole ISD Family,

We are excited to open the gates at Wigwam Stadium and share in the excitement associated with Friday Night Lights in a West Texas town. As I look forward to Friday and getting the opportunity to watch our band, cheerleaders, and football players, I am reminded of how fortunate we are to do so.

The UIL released updated COVID-19 risk mitigation guidelines Tuesday and sent a strongly worded email to superintendents across the state that said adhering to those protocols is “critical.” The UIL said in its email that “for students to have the opportunity to continue to compete in UIL activities this school year, we all must remain diligent in following these guidelines.” Furthermore, it was communicated that districts out of compliance are subject to sanctions by the UIL. It has been confirmed that many school districts were contacted by the UIL last week regarding their guidelines for spectators not being followed in Week 1. I am confident in our own practices by ensuring 50% capacity limits at our stadium. We ask for the support of our fans to comply with the guidelines and do right by our Tribe so this won’t be an issue.

The positive response and explosive ticket sales, this week serves as confirmation that our community truly supports our students and their extracurricular activities. The amount of pride in our schools is second to none. We want to compete, perform, and represent Seminole ISD at a high level each and every week. We are thankful to be in a community that understands the importance of adhering to the guidelines put in place by the UIL and the District, in order to continue to do so.

We thank you, Seminole; for supporting our schools by following all social-distancing and face-covering guidelines so that our students can continue to do what they love. It takes all of us to keep Seminole ISD safe, open, and participating.

….now GO TR1BE!
